I cannot seem to wrap my head around why this movie has such decent ratings. It was boring boring boring and contributed nothing refreshing whatsoever to the christmas/horror genre. The "antagonist", aka a 12 year old kid who is somehow able to hold people twice his size as hostages, is beyond annoying and pretty much unbearable to watch. I decided to watch it after reading a bunch of reviews about how great the "twist" is. Let me be the one to tell you, the twist is wildly underwhelming and absolutely not worth sitting through this garbage fest. I turned it off with about 30 minutes left, as I couldn't take the stupidity anymore.

Having completely unacknowledged this horror for quite some time, I actually removed it from my mind. It caught me by surprise one day, bought it, and here we are reviewing a Christmas film in the peak of summer season (sounds about right...). So, naturally, I had no idea what I was getting into except that it resembled a home invasion film. A babysitter is summoned to watch over a family's son and house whilst the parents go out. The son is hoping to get to "second base" with the babysitter, but his plans are paused as the house is seemingly invaded by a masked individual. Reminiscent to 'Home Alone', it's a story involving mind games where the residents are at an advantage for knowing the layout of their abode, with a specific scene so self-aware that it actually admits to imitating that very film.
And audiences also get a great showing by Margot Kidder, prior to her role as Lois Lane in Superman. Christian Carion’s World War I drama, about the real-life Christmas truce that broke out on the Western Front in 1914 — amid the horrors of the war, a true holiday miracle — features Diane Kruger, Daniel Brühl, Guillaume Canet and Andor star Alex Ferns. Even I got angry at the movie but when it was over I couldn't help but feel that a good movie should make you feel these things. The problem with this twist is that if you're going to try something like it you had better know what to do with it and how to handle it. Olivia DeJonge brings a sense of realism to the situation. Ed Oxenbould is cast to perfection as the timid best friend. Super entertaining and fun, full of surprises and twists, dark comedy. The closing musical selections for the film were the Christmas song "Joy to the World" and the standard Renée Olsted tune "Ain't We Got Fun." Those musical choices demonstrate everything that was wrong in this film.
As a staple of the holiday, this is a movie that has garnered much acclaim as a great Christmas movie, but it is also one that gets pretty violent in its own right. Whether Kevin is setting one of the burglars' heads on fire, shooting them with a BB gun, or hitting them in the face with paint cans and an iron, the violence plays a crucial role in guaranteeing he has a merry Christmas, ya filthy animals. This little gem is an unpredictable, often times either darkly funny or deeply disturbing thrill ride that should not be me missed by genre fans.
